Platform Strategy: Recommended Times to Post for Optimal Engagement

In our previous blog post, we discussed content strategy for video marketing campaigns. Now we’ll look at specific platforms and best times to post. Each platform and its users are different, with different browsing habits and peak times. Here are a few best practices to keep in mind.

YouTube

With 2.6 billion users and 30 million daily visitors, YouTube is the second largest search engine online after Google. Creating a business Youtube channel creates a centralized platform for your audience to view and engage with your videos.

As for best times to post – try this:

  • Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between 2 and 4 p.m. are recommended.

  • Videos posted midday on the first three days of the week get the most user engagement since it gives the platform time to index the videos and send them to subscriber newsfeeds.

Facebook

Facebook is still the most frequently used social media platform by U.S. adults, with 74% of Americans using the site every day. That’s nearly 3 billion active users every month. So whether you are using paid or organic posts, there are plenty of potential targets for your messaging. That said, with less engagement on Facebook these days, a shift to reels or stories to appeal to Gen Z and younger demographics using 6-8 second video clips or images with text overlaid is recommended.

Here’s what the research says about the best times to post on Facebook:

  • The overall best day is Wednesday and the best time is between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

  • You will get the most consistent engagement on weekdays between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • You will find the lowest engagement during early mornings before 7 a.m. and evening hours after 5 p.m.

Instagram

Instagram has more than 112 million monthly active users in the United States, with 59% of U.S. adults using Instagram daily. With a focus on images over text, video is an important tool to raise awareness for your brand.

The best times to post on Instagram are:

  • Monday at 11 a.m., Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Thursday and Friday between 10 and 11 a.m.

  • Best days to post are Tuesday and Wednesday

  • Worst day to post on is Sunday

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is the most effective platform to post about your company and professional endeavors. The platform allows you to build credibility, create a meaningful network and connect with established experts in your field.

  • Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 noon

  • Best days are Wednesday and Thursday

  • Worst days to post are Saturday and Sunday

Keep in mind that the algorithms are constantly evolving and every brand, product and customer is unique. Don’t forget to review your analytics report every month to make sure you are optimizing as you go. In fact, Facebook and Instagram now suggest peak times to reach your specific audience through the business account publishing tool. Their handy planner even reminds you of all the different “internet days” that you may be able to tap into to increase engagement (like May 4 which happens to be National Cheeseburger Day).

Good luck and happy posting!
