Internships, they’re a kickstart to your career. Over the course of my three-month internship at East River PR & Marketing, I’ve been able to refine and develop skills, work on meaningful projects, and collaborate with a supportive and talented team. Here, I’d like to share my journey – from the daily tasks I handled to the vibrant work culture that defined my experience.
Throughout my internship, I was able to leverage and sharpen a wide range of skills, including research, writing, and pitching, which were integral components of my role. I was also deeply involved in team collaboration, where I experienced firsthand the value of effective communication and collective problem-solving when it comes to PR.
From the very start, I became immersed in hands-on projects that gave me an authentic taste of what a career in PR and marketing entails. Some of the key tasks I regularly handled included:
Writing Press Releases: I crafted press releases that conveyed key messages while aligning with the company’s tone and branding.
Pitching Media Outlets: I worked closely with the team to identify relevant media outlets and pitch stories that resonated with their audiences.
Creating Coverage Books: I compiled and organized media coverage into detailed books for client reference.
Drafting PR Responses: I helped create PR responses tailored to the ever-evolving public opinion and ensured that they were timely and on-point.
Document Review and Summarization: I reviewed large volumes of information and summarized the most critical points for internal use.
Content Brainstorming: During brainstorming sessions, I had the opportunity to contribute ideas for campaigns and content strategies.
Public Opinion Monitoring: Staying on top of how our messages were being received was crucial, so I frequently monitored public sentiment.
Presenting Information: I presented my findings and ideas to the team, which often involved preparing and structuring data in a way that could guide decision-making.
Throughout what I’ve been able to accomplish at East River PR, one of the most fulfilling parts of the internship was working on drafting different PR responses that were shaped by real-time public opinion based on an 80-page environmental analysis document. This project taught me how important it is to not only stay on top of differing opinions but also be able to keep up with factual and provable responses. The process of drafting and refining those responses based on evolving trends sharpened both my writing and strategic thinking.
Additionally, the feedback I’ve received throughout my work and my time at East River PR was invaluable. The constructive criticism and guidance I got helped me significantly improve my skills. The team didn’t just point out areas for improvement, but they also provided clear directions and advice to improve my work quality.
Working each day was smooth and well-structured, thanks in large part to our daily morning meetings. These check-ins set the tone for the day, offering clarity on priorities while providing room for everyone to voice their ideas and concerns.
East River PR also holds this openness to new ideas and projects. If there was a particular area or project that interested me, I was always encouraged to “raise my hand” and get involved. The environment was never about just one person’s job or responsibility, but it was always a team effort. Whether we were brainstorming, problem-solving, or executing a campaign, input from everyone was valued and integrated.
Looking back on my time at East River PR, I realize how much this internship has helped shape my professional aspirations. The skills I developed, the people I met, and the projects I worked on have helped show me what I look forward to in the future. More importantly, my time here was in a supportive, collaborative, and dynamic work environment that has improved my skill set and resume.
This experience has left a lasting impact on my career trajectory, and I’m excited to carry the lessons I’ve learned forward into my future endeavors, I have East River PR to thank. Thank you for an incredible internship experience!
